Although this not the normal type of information found about the U.S.S.Card, it may have significance to some. The Card was taken out of mothballs on the James River to transport a U.S. Army Helicopter Company to Alaska from Norfolk in 1961. I was a helicopter mechanic in the 65th Transportation Company, Light Helicopter, at the time and sailed with her on that interesting voyage. Passed through the canal and refueled in Long Beach prior to making our way north to Cook Inlet and Anchorage Alaska. We unloaded the aircraft, vehicles, supplies etc. and headed to Fort Wainwright, Fairbanks where I remained for another 18 months. |

| Comments: | Learned about USS Card organization from my sister, Jean Mathews who was one of the host at this years reunion (2007) in Hot Springs, Arkansas. I have attended 3 reunions now. The first in Paducah, KY and the next one in Idaho Falls. I met some of the most wonderful people I've ever had the plesure to know. I'm sorry no one knew my Dad. It would have been wonderful to hear stories about him. But the stories I heard from others were so interesting to me and I learned so much. I have so much respect for all the men who served on the Card and what a joy to meet so many of them and their families. I will never forget the people I met and the kindness they showed my sister and me. What a wonderful experience I will cherish always. |

After the Hornet (CV8) went down, my dad, John Leslie Richards, was flightcrew on the CARD from what he said was her first cruise until Spring 1945 when he went to PaxRiver. Dad died in 1995 but he spoke often and warmly of the CARD and his shipmates and the reunion he did get to attend. His last trip out West months before he died included Washington state and a visit with an old shipmate from the CARD. Of both his WWII carriers, she was his favorite. |

| Comments: | I was the Flight Surgeon from Nov 1942 to June 1944. Some of my friends were XO Duerfeldt, SO Blackistone, squadron skipper Jones, flyers; Beveridge,Salinger, Cormier & Estep, Dental Off Nelson, Intel Off George Snider (wife Samie roomed w/my wife in Norfolk), commo off Sam ? (was married to F. Scott Fotzgerald's daughter). Would very much like to attend a reunion. At 91 I would like it to be on the west coast - preferably the northwest. The USS Card was named after Card Sound in Florida. It had a sister ship named Bogue (also named after a sound). |

| Comments: | My grandfather served on the U.S.S Card. I'm not sure what year(s). I would guess somewhere between 1940-1950. His name was Benedict Bosco. If anyone has any stories or pictures I would love to hear them. I know he would love to see old pictures. He has a few but I'm sure seeing someone elses would just make his day!!! Thank you for this great webite honoring these great men. |

In Aug. 1961 my Army unit, 65th "T" Co. departed HRAT for Anchorage, AK. Our unit was the last Army helicopter unit transported by CARD to a destination other than VietNam. I have an old photo of our aircraft being loaded aboard CARD at HRAT. By this time, the crew was civilian. |

What a great, touching and historical site, I am currently getting help from one of your members "Joe" to help find what ship my grandfather served on when he was killed. My mother never knew much about him and would love to find his "reunion" to know more about what her father was like. Just want to say thank you Joe for all your doing 4 us |
